Verification levels

Your verification level describes how thoroughly your identity has been checked. Services ask for the level they need — and get nothing beyond it.

There are four levels. Each is earned by completing stronger checks, and each unlocks more. A service checking your identity learns your level and the answer it asked for — never the evidence behind it.

Unverified

You have a wallet, but no identity checks have been completed yet.

Evidence required

  • None — this is where every wallet starts.

What it unlocks

  • Browsing services that accept the wallet
  • Activities that do not need identity checks

Basic

Early checks have passed. Enough for low-risk activity where a service just needs some confidence you are a real person.

Evidence required

  • Basic identity details you enter yourself
  • A verification session that passes the network's early checks

What it unlocks

  • Low-risk services and small transactions
  • Services that only need a real-person signal, not a strong identity

Standard

Most services ask for this

Your identity document and your face have been checked and verified by the network. This is the level most services ask for.

Evidence required

  • A government-issued identity document, scanned front and back
  • A selfie with active liveness checks (blink, head turn, smile)
  • Automated document reading (OCR) that matches the document to your details

What it unlocks

  • Most participating services
  • Age and attribute proofs (for example, proving you are over 18)
  • Marketplace activity that requires a verified identity

Trusted

Strongest assurance

The strongest level: everything in Standard, plus hardware-backed biometric checks, device integrity attestation, and a sustained verification history.

Evidence required

  • Everything required for Standard
  • Fingerprint or iris capture through your phone's secure hardware
  • Device integrity attestation (Google Play Integrity or Apple App Attest)
  • A history of successful verification over time

What it unlocks

  • Sensitive, high-trust roles — for example validator onboarding on the VirtEngine network
  • High-value transactions where the counterparty requires the strongest assurance

How levels change

  • Levels go up when you complete stronger checks — for example adding hardware biometrics to move toward Trusted.
  • Levels can go stale if evidence ages — an expired document means the related claims need re-verification.
  • Levels go down if you revoke the consent a level depended on — revoking biometric consent withdraws biometric verification.

The network recalculates your level from the evidence it has verified. There is no manual override and no way to buy a level — for anyone.

However strong the evidence you provide, the scoring itself always runs inside trusted processing units — hardware-sealed vaults no one can open — and the raw evidence is destroyed when scoring ends. Only the level and score remain.
